Book Review-The Forest of Hands and Teeth by Carrie Ryan

Mary, her family and friends live in a village protected by big fences to keep out the zombies who will infect and kill you with one bite. The Sisterhood run the village and when Mary's parents turn zombie, she is forced to be a trainee because she is unmarried and the man she loves is betrothed to her best friend Cass. She discovers that the Sisterhood are keeping secrets including a life existing beyond the fences and the forest and she becomes obsessed with it. When the zombies finally breach the fence, the survivors flee along protected paths leading them away from what they know, with the zombies in pursuit.
This was a better book than I expected it to be. Mary's obsession does get a bit annoying in places and the book gets a bit slow in the middle but the well written characters keep you hooked on what is going to happen next. The love story is important and does not distract from the plot the way some books do. There is good zombie action and tension and the second half of the book is excellent. This is well worth reading and I think it would make a really good film.
