Book Review-The Laughing Corpse by Laurell K Hamilton

This is book two in the Anita Blake Vampire Hunter series. Anita is having a really bad week. A rich lunatic offers her over a million dollars to raise a zombie using a human sacrifice and when she refuses he sends his goons after her. She manages to upset a powerful Voodoo Queen who decides to send zombies after her to murder her in the night. Jean-Claude the Master Vampire is still trying to seduce her and make her understand that she is his human servant and to cap it off a now dead animator has helped to raise an out of control zombie who is murdering innocent families across town.
I like Anita because she is real and normal. She hunts vampires but she is very scared of them. She raises zombies for a living but is terrified when they are trying to kill her. She vomits at gory crime scenes. She is not superhuman. She cries when she is upset. She collects furry toy penguins which comfort her after a crap day. I like her feisty attitude but vulnerable sides. The story is fast paced with good side characters coming in like Willy the Vampire. Another good read.
