Book Review-The Becoming by Jeanne C. Stein

Anna is a bounty hunter who is raped and turned into a vampire. Her doctor Avery takes her under his wing to help her adjust as he is also a vampire. Bad things keep happening to Anna and she is sure that her sire is out to kill her, and when her partner David goes missing, things get a whole lot worse.

As heroines go, Anna can be a bit frustrating but I found her pretty likeable on the whole. As always she was slow to except the truth about being a vampire which always bugs me in books but that is just a personal gripe! Her life is in a mess and you can understand her being a bit confused about things though her morals take a back seat as she jumps into bed with Avery despite continually declaring her love for her boyfriend Max. She does do some stupid things though so I get why a lot of people didn't like the book.

I was suspicious of Avery from the start though I was unsure where her sire fit into the picture. Avery was too smooth and slimy for my liking and I did think it was a bit obvious that Avery was not the good guy, especially after the trip to Mexico and his determination that Anna forget all about David and give him up as lost. Curious about who Casper is going to be as well.

I was extremely happy to see Avery get what was coming to him. Scumbag. I never liked him at all. There was enough in the book to keep me curious about what Anna was going to do next so I will give book 2 a go at some point.
