Book Review-The Poison Diaries by Maryrose Wood

** spoiler alert ** Jessamine lives with her father who is an apothecary. He prides himself on curing the people who need help but is obsessive about finding new knowledge and tending a garden full of dangerous exotic poison plants that he has yet to learn about. But when a strange boy comes to live with them, it seems that he has that knowledge and Jessamine is drawn to him. As their love grows, the boy called Weed admits his secret to her, a secret that has to be kept from her father.

It's not the most exciting book in the world as it focuses on the plants and the characters more than having lots of action but there is enough there to keep you reading it. Weed's big secret is easy enough to guess if you are paying attention, which might well have been the author's intention all along.

However when Jessamine falls ill, the plot changes and Weed is forced to use his gift to save her life, revealing his secret to her father. It was clear the moment that Thomas raised a toast to the young couple that he had poisoned her to force Weed to reveal his knowledge, knowing the boy would do anything to save her. Evil git!

What I liked-the personalities of the poison plants when they talk to Weed.

Didn't like-the ending where Thomas gets away with attempted murder and Weed has to flee
